DAP knew it was not easy to win Sibu. In fact, we knew it was so tough that we had asked the Sibuans to create a political miracle by electing the first Pakatan Rakyat Member of Parliament from Sarawak.
Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders were so confident of retaining Sibu parliamentary seat that they had openly said that Sibu had always been a traditional BN stronghold. They had more than once said that Sarawak was BN's "fixed deposit"- strong and secure.
They were not being boastful as Sibu was indeed a traditional stronghold of BN.
But the courageous Sibuans decided to send message to the BN leaders that they wanted change and the people power could make BN lose its "fixed deposit".
While the PR's defeat in the recent Hulu Selangor was a big disappointment for the opposition, the historic Sibu win by DAP's Wong Ho Leng was a booster to our battle for Putrajaya in the next general election.
With the Sibu result, it is unlikely that Najib will want to call for an early general election. But PR must begin all out preparation to do the great battle for Putrajaya .
Recent Hulu Selangor and the just concluded Sibu by election results have clearly shown that there has been increase of Chinese support for PR. But we had lost Hulu Selangor due to decreased support from the Malay and Indian voters.
Hence, special strategies and plans should be put in place to increase PR support, especially among the non-Chinese voters.

M. Kulasegaran : " People First, Performance Now" or ' Votes First, Performance Later" , YAB Prime Minister?
(May 20, 2010)
The Sibu voters created history on May 16 when they elected DAP's candidate Wong Ho Leng as their new Member of Parliament.
Before nomination day, BN leaders had openly said that they could retain Sibu as it was always BN's traditional stronghold. The Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib had also often talked about Sarawak and Sabah seats being BN's "fixed deposits".
Najib had personally campaigned in the by election and in fact, he visited Sibu thrice. He played Santa Claus and dished out huge government allocations.
Despite the blatant practice of money politics by BN, the courageous Sibu voters decided to vote for change.
There is a political now that while BN candidate did not and could not lose his candidate deposit, BN nevertheless lost its “fixed deposit".
One question that many Malaysians are now asking is whether Najib will sign the RM 5 mil cheque for flood mitigation projects in Rajang Park.
On the polling day eve, he had announced in Rajang Park that he would sign a cheque for flood mitigation projects in the area, provided Sibu voters “deliver” him BN candidate Robert Lau in the following day's polling.
When asked by the media yesterday as to whether he would sign the cheque, Najib did not make any commitment.
Let me remind Najib that if he does not sign the cheque, not only he will be seen as being petty, his commitment to his “People First,, Performance Now" slogan will be questioned.
What credibility will such slogan have if he is not prepared to solve flood problem faced by the people? Should people's problems be solved only if they vote for BN?
My question to the Prime Minister is whether his slogan is still ' People First", Performance Now” or has it become ”Votes First, Performance Later"?

YB Nga Kor Ming : DAP creates miracle at Sibu by election a great people's victory
(Ipoh, 17-5-2010)
The Sibu By Election victory by the DAP is one of the most significant people’s victory for all 11 by election held since 2008 and it marks the beginning to smash political hegemony in the State of Sarawak or in particular, to end the Taib’s Dynasty.
The Perak DAP Secretary, who is also the Member of Parliament from Taiping, Nga Kor Ming today said that the victory at Sibu is one of the most remarkable one especially it is the first ever victory achieved by DAP under the people’s alliance, pakatan rakyat.
Nga who just return home from Sibu said, despite against all odds and various dirty political tactics, the DAP managed to withstand the challenge and emerged as eventual winner. DAP wons in all Chinese majority areas and increase votes from Melanau community, an increase of total 2954 votes compares to 2008 General Election is a significant improvement.
The DAP also managed to score more than 70% support from Chinese community which made SUPP suffered a huge blow with the impending State Election which will be due in a year. If not because of the postal votes which sees Barisan Nasional scored an unbelievable 97%, the DAP’s vote of majority shall convincingly exceeds 3,000 votes. In Belambau area, DAP majority even reached a 5651 high.
Nga calls on Election commission to abolish postal votes to ensure fair and clean elections. The postal votes is always subject to criticsm due to various weknesses in the electoral process.
Nga also urged the Anti Corruption Commission(SPRM) to take appropriate action against Prime Minister, Dato Seri Najib Bin Tun Razak who had clearly involved in open bribery with his infamous “ i help u, u help me” approach and open promise to issue RM5 millions cheque should only Barisan Nasional wins in this crucial battle.
Nga said, “ It is a great relief the results show that the people of Sibu proved to the world that their votes are not for sale, instead their precious votes are vote of dignity.”
The aftermath of the by election indicated that East Malaysia is no longer the fixed deposit or safe seats for Barisan Nasional. Should Pakatan Rakyat continues to keep up the paste and provides new hope to the people, it is not impossible that Malaysia will witness the first ever power transition in the next general election.
Nga praised the people of Sibu’s courage who rise up to the occasion to reject votes buying, open bribery, political lies and racial politics which had been practiced by Barisan Nasional since decades ago. He said , “ We are truly grateful to the people of Sibu, God had heard our prayers and the people had decided to speak up through their vote for Justice and fairness.”
DAP PERAK sent a strong 50 members delegations which saw 18 from DAP Taiping went to Sibu and camp there almost for the entire campaigning period. DAP Perak Chairman Ngeh Koo Ham and State secretary, Nga Kor Ming also played pivotel role with all party volunteers to secure this remarkable victory.

SJK Ladang Escot finally got piped water supply because of Hulu Selangor by election
(11th May 2010)
A Bernama report dated May 4 said that after more than 50 years depending on spring water, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil ( SJK) Tamil Ladang Escot in Hulu Selangor finally received piped water supply. The report further said:-
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor executive chairman Tan Sri Rozali Ismail said the company swung into action upon learning about the school’s predicament during the just-concluded Hulu Selangor by-election.
“This is to reciprocate the support given by the people who contributed to Barisan Nasional’s win in the by-election. As a government-linked company, we will support the Government’s aspirations,” he told reporters after checking on the pipe-laying work to supply water to the school yesterday.
He added that the job entailed a 1.5km pipeline with the overall cost of the project totalling RM600,000.
It was certainly much welcome news which the school had been waiting for.
In fact, this was the second good news for the school as it was during the campaigning period of the Hulu Selangor by election that the school had finally obtained the Tenaga Nasional electricity supply.
Nevertheless, there are two questions worth pondering.
Firstly, SJK Ladang Escot is not located in some remote interior part of the country, yet why did it take so long for piped water and Tenaga National electricity supplied to it?
Secondly, if it was not for the Hulu Selangor by election where the Barisan Nasional was desperate to win the Indian votes, would the Barisan Nasional solve the long standing plight faced by the school?
There is no doubt at all that it is due to the political awakening of the Indian community and the significant impact the Indian votes can play in deciding the by election and the coming general outcome that the Barisan Nasional government has begun to pay serious attention to some of their problems.
So SJK Ladng Escot got the by election to thank for getting the piped water and electricity supply.
It was the power of their votes, which forced the Barisan Nasional government to solve the school's problems.
Just in case the Barisan Nasional or the new Hulu Selangor MP P Kamalanathan think that they have done enough for SJK Ladang Escot, let me remind them of the long standing land problem faced by the school.
The school was once asked to vacate its premises by the previous owner and the present owner, FG Manufacturing, had also in 2006 told the school to do the same.
The BN government must either allocate an alternative place for the school or acquire the present piece of land so as to solve the land issue once and for all.

Women hold up half the sky
------------------------------ ---
Today is Mothers Day and celebrations are held in various ways in many parts of the world to honour mothers.
------------------------------
Today is Mothers Day and celebrations are held in various ways in many parts of the world to honour mothers.
Mothers are indeed special people and lets wish a very happy mothers day to all mothers in the world.
To all the mothers who have suffered and scarified for their families, I salute you.
On this day, I recall an ancient Chinese proverb which is more popularly attributed to the Chinese leader, the late Mao Tzu Tong.
The proverb is "Women hold up half the sky".
This proverb shows the importance and role of the women. Most important of all, it shows the power of the women.
Without the brave and encouraging support of the women votes, the political tsunami of the 2008 general election would not have been possible.
Because of the strong women support for change, the Barisan Nasional's traditional political hegemony of parliamentary two thirds majority had been smashed.
So while we celebrate events to honour the greatest people -- mothers, let us all not forget too the role and contribution Malaysian mothers and women have made towards political reforms in this nation.
The coming general election is a very crucial battle where the Pakatan Rakyat's objectives are to recapture the Perak state power , but also to battle for Putrajaya.
We should therefore always remember the slogan " Women hold up half the sky" and not only get more women to vote for Pakatan Rakyat but also to get more of them to be directly involved in our preparation for the objectives of PR's coming electoral objectives.
